Using Photoshop 7 I am trying to create a one word title image for a book preface. This is because there seems to be more fine kerning text configuration possibilities in Photoshop than in MS Word…
I have the text on a transparent background OK in a psd. With the anti-aliasing method set to ‘none’ it will save as a gif with the transparent background intact. However, with the anti-aliasing method set to ‘strong’ or ‘crisp’ the saved gif reverts to a white background.
Bearing in mind the possible slight differences in paper color that the title may be printed on I am wondering exactly how to achieve the desired affect of Text on a Transparent Background with an anti-aliasing method other than ‘none’
Many Thanks in advance
Thanks Robert, I’m planning on a transparent background to a one word piece of text if you think you can help me out
Simply use the .psd file with transparent background. .gif is not a good printing format. Or create a 24 bit .png
file.
Better yet, do you have Illustrator (or CorelDRAW)? Use that rather than Photoshop. All backgrounds are considered transparent unless you define it and the vector style fonts will print as sharp and clean as the can be. Plus kerning and sizing are infinately better than Photoshop (as much as Photoshop is better than Word)
Thanks Clifford, I’m glad you said .png…
No Illustrator or CorelDRAW here, but I have the kerning set up lovely.
I’ve now discovered Help \ Export Transparent Image (never noticed it before!) and when I ‘save for print’ (.tiff or .eps) it saves with awful jagged edges to the text but when I ‘save for web’ (.png) with the .psd dpi set up to 500 it imports into MS Word and displays at 400% magnification at pretty much smooth enough looking edges to me…
Hmmm.. web better than print..? Work that one out.
I have the psd set to Greyscale by the way.
thanks again.
