I am using an EOS 1d Mk 11 with Mac OSX 10.3.4 on a Powerbook 15" G4 & multipropcessor desktop G5. Is there any way of giving .CR2 (or EOS 1d raw) files a caption without having to use (arcane) ‘sidecar’ .xmp files please? Saving, archiving and transmitting two files for every image is far from ideal.

You would be better off asking in the Camera RAW section.
