Creating translucent glass for a mirror.

Pat_ M. Thompson – 02:49pm Jun 25, 2004 Pacific

I have a mirror frame with a white background behind it. It almost looks like a glass mirror, but the glass doesn’t have the translucency that clearly marks it as a mirror. I have tried different blending and lighting techniques, but just can’t seem to get that mirror to look like a perfect piece of glass that cleanly reflects an image. A viewer would probably say that my project is pretty close to the real thing, but I know that the glass does not appear to be perfectly translucent. Since you aren’t viewing my picture, it may be difficult to fairly evaluate what I am saying, so all I am looking for here is some ideas on how to create glass for a mirror that "really" looks like glass. I have searched & followed Net tutorials, but so far nothing is quite right.
Any ideas?
Thanks for any time & energy you give to considering this request. Pat Thompson

In general, you will need to make a layer, fill it with a gray or slightly blue/green tint with a light/dark/light gradient (which can be hand drawn for a more "organic" shape), and then reducing the opacity to show the "reflection" or image underneath.
Hope this helps!
