Three or more times since installing CS, I used the "save as" command in an attempt to create a new jpeg file. The jpeg box appears, I hit "OK" and the file is saved.

However, when attempting to open this file later, photoshop will not open it. This message appears: Adobe Photoshop. Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of file.

Windows file manager lists it it so: File type: FILE

When attempting to open with windows file manager this message appears: Windows: Windows cannot open this file. To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. etc.

This never happened in previous version of photoshop (versions 4, 6, 7).

Needless to say, after spending significant time on a file and saving it, only to not be able to open it up is not good.

Photoshop 7 SAVE AS for jpg gave filename.tif.jpg.

Photoshop CS SAVE AS for jpg gives filename or filename.tif when it is a jpg.

For CS, just be sure to type in the file extension after selecting the file type and before telling it to go ahead and save it AS whatever.

Perhaps a fix will show up in CS.01 or CS.1 or whatever it will be called. *HINT…HINT*

Bill, you don’t get it: CS IS BUG FREE. Thus, there will be no .01 release for this piece of perfection called Photoshop CS. Adobe has stated this outright on the Mac side of the PS forum, and it has been mentioned here as well. This may well be the first time in the history of published commercial software that an edition was so flawless out of the box that it needed no sort of update or patch. We should all feel honored to share in the ownership of such a history making masterpiece.

Now, in fairness, most CS users aren’t having problems, but this is of little concern or comfort to those who find CS to be cumbersome or even unusable. FWIW, issues exist on both the Mac and Win platforms and, in fairness, both sides are being equally ignored by Adobe (except for the release of a couple of fixes in the form of plugins). The party line is that if you have a problem with CS, there is something wrong with your system or your other software.

I hope you deal well with disappointment.
