My wife is a professional wedding photographer using a Fuji S2 digital camera.

The camera creates JPEG files; here’s the info on them (reported by IrfanView): Image size: 2016 x 3024
Print Size: 28in x 42in
Color Depth: 24bpp
File Size: 1.72MB
(Approx 6.12 megapixels)

Using her Compact Flash reader, she copies the images to her hard drive. She then opens the file in PS v7.

Now, technically speaking, based on the 28" x 42" image size, the pic is at 72dpi.

She then cropped the image, but had errantly set the resolution to 300dpi. She did this by selecting the crop tool, setting the size to 28in x 48in, with a 300 dpi resolution. She selected the area to crop, right-clicked and chose Crop.

Then she saved the file as a JPG, with the quality level set at 12 (highest quality).

After doing that, she CANNOT open the file in PS – she gets the dreaded "Invalid marker type" error, although the file was saved by photoshop. So – this DOES appear to be a bug in PS.

A sign of file corruption. Time to check the drive cables and run a thorough scan disk…..
