Eye-One Display http://www.i1color.com/ has great user reviews. I use Colorvision’s SpyderPro without the Printfix package. It is reasonably priced and delivers good profiles

I’m not sure if the Spectrolino spectrophotometer with ProfileMakerPro software is the best combination but it sure is quite good.

It probably is, I remember a review somewhere (sorry no URL handy as it was too expensive for my use I didn’t save it), but for display profiling I like the EyeOne Photo a lot (probably also needs ProfileMaker Pro to get the best out of the spectrophotometer) and other uses (e.g. Ambient light spectrum, reflection spectrum, printer profiling) right out of the box, and it provides an interesting upgrade path.

Having used many monitor calibration devices over the years including a Spectrolino, I’d say that, while it can do monitors, displays are not it’s strongest suit. Better calibrations were had using the venerable X-Rite DTP-92 and Optical. Better yet are the dedicated calibration pucks and software included with the Sony Artisan and Barco monitors, but the new solutions from Gretag and Monaco are both quite good.

EyeOne Publish is more than just monitor calibration. It includes a spectro and the ability to build output printer profiles. The EyeOne monitor calibration by itself is around $250.
