BestView for Windows.

SuperCal for Macs.

I can swear by SuperCal but not BestView. I have a Mac. Check these threads on using eyeball calibrators and color management in general:

Strictly speaking, the answer would have to be "with the Eye-One by GretagMacbeth".

Interpreting the question to mean "the best way without spending even for a Spyder hardware puck", then Tim has the right answer for you.
