I’m scanning a whole ancient book and my scanning interface (silverfast) creates in photoshop files which have all the same name without any serial number. Do you know how I could make photoshop save all my opened files automatically and with a rank number in the filename ? Because saving and renaming the file after each scan is further too long… I didn’t find anything like this in the action menu.

If I read you correctly, your scanner program saves each file with a standard name, like scan.tif, and you want an action that will know the number of the last file saved as scan001.tif, and save the new one as scan002.tif.

I’m pretty sure that actions cannot maintain a variable value between different runs of the action.

I don’t get it. First of all, when multiple new images are brought into photoshop directly from a twain driver, they are all numbered "Untitled-1", "Untitled-2", etc. These you can rename and serialize with an action/batch.

I don’t use silverfast, but if you’re scanning multiple images, where are they going? Directly to your hard drive? Then they *have* to be named something different or one will overwrite the other.

So you need to explain more about what you’re doing and how you’re bringing the images in.

Finally, I’ve never seen high end scan software that, when run as a standalone, cannot automatically name files that are scanned as part of a batch scanning process. My point? It should be in the scan software to rename them as well.

Peace,
Tony
