Saving changes to iPhoto

Using Mac OSX Tiger operating system, and Photoshop Elements 2.0 When I do edits with PE, I make duplicate of file in iPhoto, then open duplicate in PE. But I have not been able to save the edited file back to iPhoto – iPhoto will only display the original duplicate.
