How to make it so layer effects pulldown isn’t pulled down by default?

In photoshop, when an effect is applied to a layer, an "FX" arrow pulldown automatically appears showing the applied effects (i.e. dropshadow, stroke, etc). Often i find myself copying a layer style and pasting it to a bunch of layers at the same time. Then i find myself having to spend the time hitting that little pulldown arrow for the layer effects. I don’t like them showing because the layer panel gets too crowded. Is there a way to change this default?

We don’t have palettes in CS4 anymore, they’re called panels now.

Of course, The OP doesn’t specify what version he’s using, but he does refer to a panel. :/

Sorry for not mentioning what version of Photoshop i was using. It is CS3, and thanks Tom, that appears to be what I was looking for. I’m not sure how i missed it. Thanks again.
