Photoshop 6.0 keeps shutting down

I have been using Photoshop 6.0 for years with no problems. Recently, I will click on my Photoshop 6.0 desktop icon and it will appear as if it is loading. Then before it opens the program, the Photoshop box (with the author’s names) disappears and goes back to my desktop. My computer is Intel(R)Core(TM) 2 CPU, , 2 GB of RAM, Microsoft XP-Home Ed., 2002, Service Pack 2.
