Photoshop randomly shuts down

Using Photoshop CS, the software randomly shuts down. But when I check the Task Manager I see that Photoshop.exe is still running. If I were to try to open Photoshop again nothing happens except another instance of photoshop.exe shows up in the Task Manager. If I "End tasks" both instances then I can open Photoshop again….and then it will shut down again some other time.

Any suggestions?
