I am getting an error with Photoshop Elements 2.0 saying that the Layer is locked. Sure enough, there is a ‘lock’ icon. How does one unlock a Layer?

Thanks!

Make a copy of the layer and then delete the locked layer.

Thanks Ingrid!

Why does the layer lock?

If this is the background layer, as I suspect it is, simply double click on this layer, in the layer palette, you’ll get a dialog box that says "New Layer", click on Ok, this will unlock the layer.

I don’t know why, but the background layer of a new empty document or an opened image is always locked. I guess they figured you need to have at least one layer, so better lock the background… (it’s late, that’s the best I can come up with !)
