won’t recognize external drive as scratch disk

Photoshop CS2 running on Mac — just bought Crossfire 232GB Firewire external hard drive. hotoshop does not recognize it as a scratch disk (Illustrator recognizes it fine). Any ideas? thx

Try re-launching Photoshop after the FWD shows-up on your HD. If that still won’t work, try trashing your Photoshop Prefs..

Using a dedicated first partition on a second Internal HD would be a better option if you have one.

Has that new external FW drive been properly formatted as a Mac HSF+ volume?

Another thought:

Does your User Account have Administrator privileges?

If it does not, you may need to set your Scratch Disk in the Get Info dialog to "Ignore Ownership on this Volume".
