I’m new to Mac, but I am having a problem that I did not have on my PC laptop. I attach an external hard drive and go to Preferences to assign a scratch disk, but it will not show the external drive on the list – only Startup and Mac HD. Is there something that will get PS to recognize that external drive to use for the scratch disk? I can recall in one of the Real World PS books saying they could not imagine running the same drive for PS and virtual memory. Is there a way?

BTW, it is a MacBook Pro 15" w/2 gigs RAM etc.

Thanks

If the external drive is NOT formatted as a Mac HFS+ volume, Photoshop will NOT recognize it as a valid drive. This is particularly true if you formatted it as FAT32.

That’s it ! I just realized that I have been using my old external drive that has never been reformatted for the Mac. Thanks!
