Saving edited files in Photoshop CS

When I open a picture, edit it, and try saving, I am told that a file under that name is open and so I can’t save.

Tried "Save as", and it gives me the "replace" option, but then comes back with "a file under that name is open", and also won’t save. I have to save under a new name. What was Adobe thinking?

Are you working on an open file across a network by any chance?

It’s not Adobe, it’s your install. Try repair permissions, install, then repair permissions again. And maybe trash preferences along the way.
