With second-hand computers, especially if acquired from strangers but perhaps even if acquired from a family member or friend, your wisest course of action would definitely be to format the hard drives and start fresh. You don’t want to get in trouble because the original owner may have filled the hard drive with kiddie porn, or have problems because the original owner downloaded/installed viruses or other malware.

The user profile folders (C:\Documents and Settings\Username) _cannot_ be renamed, without risky registry editing, even if the associated user account has been. So, your best course of action would be to log on using the built-in Administrator account, create a new user account, with the username desired. Once you’ve logged in using this new account (and transfered any data you need to preserve, you can then delete the old user account(s).

Editing the registry isn’t risky if you have a clue.

And what’s this stupidity got to do with Photoshop?

Why post this ? here is my problem and solution
I Bought a new computer, win 7 and cs5
question was: what to do with old one
old computer was running slow, takes forever to load PS
malware and viruses could not be removed also pop up ads appeared went into user account and created a new administrator user name re-booted computer with new account. then completely deleted old user name computer took 20 minutes to remove it, re-booted again
and OMG, what an improvement, the computer was cleaned and running full speed
what followed was simple. reconfigured outlook express with newsgroups and e-mail accounts
all programs thought it was first install and some asked for serial numbers photoshop is running almost as fast as new one
so if you want to save a few bucks, take this suggestion

Your problem is that you’re a fucking idiot.

I Bought a new computer, win 7 and cs5

Yeah, SURE you ‘bought’ CS5.

You’re a consummate fuck-up. Stop downloading pirate software and you’ll stop getting virues and malware.

re-booted computer with new account. then completely deleted old user name computer took 20 minutes to remove it, re-booted again

If you want a machine that’s still infected with all the crap you’ve already infected it with. Take this idiot’s advice.

You’re dumber.

Good lord you can’t even capitalize "I" or end your sentences with punctuation marks.

I maintain a 100% clean machine. Just how much cleaner is ‘to your liking’?

after all the computer is 6 years old. And that is why i created a NEW user name

You created a new account because the computer was six years old? THAT makes as much sense as any of your imbecilic statements to date.

furthermore I do NOT use pirated software photoshop is MINE along with adobe master collection CS5

Then where’d you get all the virus, malware, trojans and spyware from, Chuckles?

and installed on a new computer, win7 ultra professional thanks for not understanding

The day I ‘understand’ you is the day I eat a bullet.

P.S.
It’s retarded to reply to yourself.

If they were properly installed at inception, then perhsp one or two might have slipped through the ID process, but nothing as you indicated would happen!

furthermore I do NOT use pirated software photoshop is MINE along with adobe master collection CS5

…. and just where in Hades did I make ANY such implication! Thanks for -=reading=-, not inferring!

thanks for not understanding
You’re quite welcome!

Yeah, that’s where the ‘old’ one goes when it’s time to replace!

BTW there are a few other ‘tricks’ if you must use one computer, that will keep the ‘internet’ away from the ‘main’, but as you choose NOT to read what’s said … there’s no point in helping there!

That was me. Ulysses is far too stupid to have more that a ditch digger/burger flipper job. There’s no way he’s bought and paid for Photoshop.
