I will be buying CS3 in the next few weeks but also want to consider the third party product "Fluid Mask" (http://www.vertustech.com/fm_partners_photoplugins.htm)

Can anyone who uses both please advise me – does CS3 have extended functionality to its extraction mask like is used with Fluid Mask or would still appreciate "Fluid Mask"? I don’t want to spend money unnecessarily.
Many Thanks

I suggest you try CS3 before making a decision.

In particular, "Quick Selection" has some of the attributes of Fluid Mask, for example being able to drag over the image to add and subtract up the edges. But visually it is different in use. I hated it at first because it appeared to have a mind of its own, but now I use it a lot after experimenting with what sequence to add and subtract and with brush sizes.

Well worth looking at the Adobe video tutorials at <http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/>.

In particular, Making and Refining Selections will give you a starter on the new selection tool.

But the Quick Select tutorial at <http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html> gives probably the most useful run through, especially about training the tool what NOT to include.
