I’ve discovered that Mac OS X has a UNIX command that generates calendars. In return, the calendars generated can be integrated in Photoshop Elements (with a picture or background drawing of your own).

To access it, it’s very simple. Open Terminal (Utilities -> Terminal) Type the following command : cal > calendar.txt
To make sure, it’s cal space followed by the > sign, another space, then calendar.txt. Then press on the Enter key.

Close the terminal.

In the finder, in your home, you’ll find the file calendar.txt Open it (double click on its icon and it’ll open in TextEdit).

Copy the calendar on the clipboard (select then press Command-C).

In Elements, choose the Text tool, and click where you want your calendar to appear. Then, choose Edit / Paste.

You’ll have to choose a fixed width font for the calendar to look better. The four I have (and believe to be standard) are :

Andale Mono,
Courrier,
Courrier New,
Monaco

Variations:

If you want to generate a calendar for the entire year, enter the following command:
cal 2004 > calendar.txt

If you want to generate a calendar for a specific month, other than the current month, for example Decembre 2004, enter the following command:

cal 12 2004 > calendar.txt

Ray,

Cool tip! You already know more about the Terminal/Unix than I do (which is zero).

Got anything else?

Thanks Joe 🙂

The truth is… I work with UNIX all day long. Some of that knowledge had to be put to good use.. 😉

I’m working on learning AppleScript so that I can automate this process. But don’t hold your breath just yet (you could well suffocate by the day I have enough time to complete this task… !!)

You wanna have fun.. ? Type :
cal 09 1752

And before you think your Mac is acting crazy, it’s not. It’s only a month on which specialists have decided to apply "special rules" to account for the missing 29th February of several years.

P.S. Please excuse my poor English, I’m very tired…

That’s a good tip!

I was looking for similar information at the end of last year. I needed the text for full callendar year 2004, and was able to get the information from:

http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/

Try the customize buttons, and it is very flexible. You can manipulate the layout in any way you need. For instance, I went to one column format and got the layout I needed to run down the side of an 8-1/2 x 11 page.

Another tip is that you can view the source of the web page, and easily strip out the tags, then copy and paste the text where you need it.
