Any tips on how to get the precise contour outline?

Say, there’s a light brown area on the dark brown background. We need to find out the contour outline of the light brown area accurately. At the moment we’re using Filter -> Extract to define the rough outline, and then using Magic Wand to get the contour outline.

However, this method is not accurate enough. Do you have any better way to get it accurately? Thanks a lot.

Look at the Histogram to see which channel has the biggest difference between the two colors, and duplicate it

Run Image > Adjustments > Threshold on this, and adjust the value so that you can see the border of your colors easily.

Now, Filter > Stylize > Trace Contour on this channel.
