Photoshop crashing

Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 crashing.
I have a Mac Pro Intel, 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core, 5GB RAM 2nd internal HD set up for scratch disk 2. Photoshop crashes often after I try to open the 3rd or 4th 12MB raw image. All are not open at same time. No other apps. are running. I do have a large amount of styles, shapes and brushes loaded. Other possible problem is that my desktop has 35GB on it. I’m awaiting another external HD to come in and then I’ll download all the dest top junk to it.

Make a fresh, new account on your Mac, log in as a different user.

Does the problem go away or persist?

It’s one of the most elementary trouble shooting measures.
