I have never upgraded from the original Mac OS 8.5.1 system that came with my second generation I-Mac. I am now ready to move on, and would like to know if there are any known problems/conflicts to Photoshop 7 (my main concern) that I should know about when upgrading to OS 9.1 or 9.2 (any advice on which of these two would be preferable)?

9.1 or 9.2 are both good OSes, I would go with 9.2 for the latest and best compatibility with newer drivers…

PS7.01 with the additional updaters are solid on the Mac in either OS (with all OS updaters ran).

I would recommend ZeroWriting the OEM, or better, replacing the HD with a new larger 7200 ATA — a start from scratch <http://www.gballard.net/macrant/initialize.html>

The Imac HD replacement:

I just did this, the second set of screws are under the second vent (pop it off to get at them).

PS: I believe you can install RAM 2ea 512mb dimms (slot or tray CD, Firewire?)?
I.e., max out the RAM.

9.2.2 is much more stable and faster that 9.1

Thanks for the informative responses. I messed up on a detail which may be important when I posted my question yesterday; I am currently on PS 6 not PS 7. Will this run ok with 9.2 as well? Are there any updates required?
