Help with big PDF screwup!

I don’t know how I did it, but I lost all my layers saving a copy as a PDF. I’ve tried to import the PDF back into PS in hopes that I can get my layers back but I keep getting a message that says I don’t have enough RAM which I’m surprised by because I believe I have plenty. Also, the PDF was shrunk to 72dpi, but I need a 300 dpi version. Am I truly sunk or is there a way out of this mess?
