"Unrecoverable" Photoshop Error… Help

I get an error saying:
"Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this is unrecoverable."

And it won’t run… but it used to run fine. What’s the problem?

It is Photoshop v6.0

iam getting an error while opening photo shop 6.0 and 7.0 unable to continue because of hardware or system error sorry, but the error is unrecoverable the hard ware of my system is 915 intel originalk with 51 ram 80 gb hard disk and 30 gb for windows and windows xp home edition installed pls advice me the regarding

Defrag the HD’s.
Check to see if your scratch disk HD has any space left. If you still have a problem;
Swap out your memory sticks to see if one is bad.
If you still have problems;
Remove and then, re-install the program.
