Move Tool error (swiches layers during use) PS 6.0 Win

When I use the move tool (using the mouse) to move the object on a selected layer, suddenly Photoshop selects a different layer and moves it instead. Using the arrow keys still works, and it doesn’t happen everything I use the tool, but quite often. It started happening all of a sudden, and I didn’t install anything new or make any system changes I can think of. I tried reinstalling the Program without any luck resolving the problem. It’s a very annoying problem- any help?

There’s an option that says "Auto Select Layer" in the options bar. It shows up when you have the move tool selected. Uncheck that option, and you should be good to go.
