yeah…it definitely sounds that he’s using the rectangular marquee tool (with a feather on it….look on your tool bar up top…and you will see the feathering)….so rather than use the marquee too….make sure you are actualy using the crop tool.

At least with "rounded, soft edges," the pain would be less, than if there were corners and sharp edges – ouch!

PS You need to set feather to 0 in Options for starters, otherwise you get soft edges, and the corners will round accordingly.
