I’ve been trying to use a good gold color for the text in an image.

The best I have come up with is FFD409. Is there a better gold out there.

Are there any web sites or books that give this kind of information? I also need a good silver.

Thanks,

Dennis

Have you tried a gradient?

Most of what gives gold and silver (or metal for that matter) it’s "look" is the way it reflects the light. Study a picture of either of those metals and you’ll see that their not one solid color…

Dennis,
a tutorial is fine, but I would recommend the use of KPT 5 Shapeshifter or KPT 6 Gel for metallic text.

The following photograph of a pewter set was imported into KPT Gel as an "environment"

http://www.amenfoto.com/gallery/tweaked_gel/selandia_pewter_ gel.html

and used to fill the following text selections:

http://www.amenfoto.com/gallery/tweaked_metallix/amenfoto_va ri_gel.html

The interesting aspect of the filter is that it reflects and refracts differently depending on the shape, width and angle of the font.

This text here started as a photograph of a plate of sushi imported into KPT Gel, filled the text selection and re-filtered within the same text selection in KPT Shapeshifter for bevel control, lighting direction, texture overlay and shadow position and softness:

http://www.amenfoto.com/gallery/tweaked_metallix/amenfoto_su shi.html

This silver text was done using selection inside shapeshifter and importing custom masks for texture and metallic environment for the material:

http://www.amenfoto.com/gallery/tweaked_metallix/silver_text .html

This gold text was done in essentially in the same way, the difference being that the mask overlay used a blue color assigned to it:

Of course the metallic text can be used without any texture, I just personally don’t have any interest in creating anything that simple…

I hate to contribute any business to Corel, but the fact is, the KPT Collections suite is a hell of a bargain at US$99.00, although you can find it on ebay for much less. KPT 5 alone is even cheaper.

Hope this helps.
