Brush size cursors changing to crosshairs mid-document

In PS7 prefs, I have painting cursors set to brush size, others to precise. Why is it mid-day that brushes/eraser/stamp/dodge/etc change from brush size (circle) to precise (crosshairs). Restarting PS fixes it, but it happens mid-document. Did I hit a key? Or is there a key to go back to brush size? It does not change in prefs.

You’re probably hitting the caps lock key. It toggles the brush between brush size and precise.
