My Photoshop CS4 Extended was given to me for Christmas. While trying to install it, it says I don’t have enough memory on the exter
nal hard drive I have. It says it needs 1.2 GB and I have 300 GB available. I have selected the drive that has this space available,
and it still says it. What should I do?

On which drive are you trying to install it?

The System Drive (C:\ ) is recommended. An external drive is a bad idea and will cause problems. In any case the installation process needs loads of space on The System Drive (C:\ ).

If I knew what that meant I might have a chance of answering it!

You can’t let an application see them as one drive. Computers don’t work like that. You have not given any concrete information about your system like:

Windows version?
Processor?
Video card?
Installed RAM?
Number of hard drives, size and free space on each?

Tell us that and we can help more. You might make a start by moving all those images from the C:\ drive to the external drive or copying them to a CD or DVD.
