Thanks. Perfect.

Do you happen to know how Elements organizes the files?
It seems that when I save as on a hard disk there is still some reference file or a pointer … that resides in the shared documents folder. Can I copy something to make a backup of just that catalog? I do have a registered copy but I can’t read the manual for very long because of a kind of strange situation. In the time I have been able to read there doesn’t seem to be any material on how elements is organized internally.

Is there a way to view the file names with thumbnails? Gotta be. Sorry for the elementary questions.

AKA,

I use IMatch to organize my photos, so I have not looked into Organizer in that much detail before. Here is what I found:

Do you happen to know how Elements
organizes the files?

It stores the photo files under My Pictures. It also creates a catalog file to keep track of them all. My catalog file is stored in this directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Catalogs

Can I copy something to make a backup
of just that catalog?

I see no reason why you could not manually copy the catalog files to make a backup (*.psa and *.ldb), but there should be no need for manual backups because in the Organizer PSE gives you a backup function. See File > Backup.

there doesn’t seem to be any material on

I opened the catalog file in a text editor and it appears to be a database file (can’t read in text editor). It may even be a proprietary format for PSE–don’t know.

Is there a way to view the file names with thumbnails?

Is there a way to add shortcuts to menus that don’t have them? On the MAC you could go in an add those… I guess it would be a registry thing or a tweek program … ?
