Hi,

I have a background. And a layer, this layer has a jpg picture. I would like this picture to fade or blur to complete white, from left to right. Does anyone know how to do this best with Photoshop7?
Thanks,
Jack.

I doubt this is the "best" way since I never do this kind of stuff, but this should work …

Make a new layer. Select the Gradient tool (shared with the Paint Bucket tool in the Tool box), select Foreground to Transparent as the mode (in the second from left drop down menu on the context sensitive menu bar), set white as the Foreground color, draw a line on the image to see the effect. Just cntrl-z to undo it and redo it until you get what you wanted. The longer the line the more gradual the fade to white. Hold down the shift key to draw the line straight.

If the Background is white, make a Layer Mask on the photo layer and drag a Black to white gradient across with the Layer Mask selected. This is a basic Layer Mask technique.

Pretty easy one. In this situation, set your background to solid white. Add a layer mask to the .jpg layer (using the "add layer mask" icon at the bottom of the layers palette). Making sure the mask is selected, use your gradient tool to set your fade to taste! If you’re not familiar with masks, they can prove very useful, as they can be changed as often as needed without destructive editing to layer.
