Hi, i have a macbook pro and running photoshop cs2. when i do a white to transparent gradient on a black background, i find that you can see the transition ‘step’ in a blocky way. i am guessing there are not enough grey colours to handle the gradient. does anyone know how i can set up photoshop to handle the gradient and make it smooth ? i also tried white to black on black background and got the same steppy result.

thanks for any help.

Either move to 16 bits/channel, or add some noise (turning on dithering in the gradient options is a good start).
