Help with Sketch Filter

I created a shape in Illustrator then I dropped the image into Photoshop and selected the shape. Now I want to apply the Sketch Filter but it is dimmed. How can I use this filter on a selected shape? I also noticed that the Brush Strokes filter is also dimmed. Are these two filter for text only?

Make sure you’re in grayscale or RGB color mode. Some filters don’t work in all color spaces.

Your right, I was in CMYK mode and switching to RGB did the trick. Thanks so much.
