I am wondering if there is a filter or technique available that will allow me to turn a portrait photograph into a fake pencil drawing, as a colleague of mine recently bought one of these drawings for £80.00, and I wanted to prove to him that its possible in photoshop!

Anyone tried this?

Try playing arround with the artistic and brush stroke filters.

Also duplicate the image, apply filters and use layer transparency.

You could also try different sketch filters/settings on each channel.

There are several filters that do a very good job of this at the Adobe Expert Center or Adobe Studio action exchange:

(you may have to register to be able to access these. It is free)

1. With the original image open, duplicate the layer. =(Layer 1)
2. Desaturate Layer 1 (Image/ Adjustments/Desaturate)
3. Duplicate layer 1. =(Layer 2)
4. Invert layer 2. (Image/adjustments/invert)
5. Change the blending mode of layer 2 to Color Dodge.
The display will turn completely white.
6. Apply a gaussian blur to layer 2. The amount of blur will determine the width of the sketch lines.
