It’s a cludge whic I’ve used occasionally (and I’m sure some one knows a better way) But I draw 2 line on the guides and use the Align distribute tool to distribute the desired layer between the two lines…. or I just do the maths and figure out the half way point on the ruler, create another guide and use smart guides to align the center of the layer.
