Help in deleting transparent block behind a newly created oval

I just cropped a photo as an oval over a transparent oval.

I am inserting this into a document where I want to flow text around the oval…. but the rectangular transparent layer gets in the way. The text flows around the rectangular layer 🙁

I tried to delete the transparent layer (layer 0) but that deleted the image too.

How do I do this.
I am using CS

OOPS.. That should have been I just cropped a photo as an oval over a transparent *layer*!.
