I have a batch of photographs which appear to be overexposed, probably i fu’d with a new camera. Is there a way I can adjust ONLY the exposure part of the picture, it’s mainly the flesh tones that appear to be wrong, the backgrounds seem to be OK.

There are a number of things that you could try. One suggestion would be to lasso the subjects that appear to be overexposed. Feather the selection by a few pixels and then copy the selection and paste it to a new layer. Next, create a Levels adjustment layer and group it with the previous layer. That is one of the checkbox options you will see as you create the new layer. Now, when you adjust the levels, Photoshop Elements will only modify the levels on the "people" layer.
