Hi,

I am working on a tool to reduce a gray image with 256 level to only 4 level. Please advise on the the best algorithm to do the same.

Hello,
It depends of your purposes.
The best results give stochastich methods in contrast to ordered. Try use Stucki or Floyd-Steinberg methods with blue noise.
