How do I handle extreme red eye?

I’m trying to salvage this shot of my other half and his sister: http://img459.imageshack.us/img459/9074/pic1ul5.jpg

I was able to "fix" their tooth problem:

But the red eye is extreme in her case. Everything I’ve tried (copy/paste the green channel to red, level adjustments etc) makes her look like a vampire. What do professionals do for extreme red eye when reshooting an image isn’t possible?

Nice shot! Pro’s don’t get red eye as they tend not to use a flash so close to the lens axis. If they do get it, they use Photoshop.;)

Thanks Mike. Great! I softened the edge between the
light and dark gray in her eyes and the result is nearly perfect.
