Color selection

Question:

I tried to use the color picker to select the color from the background and then paint with that color but it is painting a different color altogether. In the tools pallette I see that the color I want is selected for the foreground so why is this happening?

Blend mode of the layer or brush?

I’m not sure what you mean. If you are talking about the menu bar at the top for the brush tool where it says mode, the mode is normal. What is blend mode of the layer?

I reset the tool and that didn’t work.

Open your Layers Palette and check that the targeted layer is also set in Normal mode.
