Selection Tool

I have a question related to the selection (Lasso) tools. When making a selection (where I have zoomed in on the image) when I get to the edge of the display the cursor shoots down (or in what ever direction I am moving the mouse towards). Is there a way to slow this down so I can continue to make my selection with having to use a zoom > select > unzoom >zoom > select piece meal approach?

Davo,

While you are using a tool, pressing the space bar temporarily turns your cursor into the hand tool, with which you can scroll your view… release the space bar, and you’re back in the middle of selecting.
