Image for newspapers – what settings?

I have to produce an image to be printed in several newspapers, but I do not know what format, dpi, etc I need for it. I only know it should be CMYK. Can anyone help?

Best thing to do would be (if you can) contact the printers and ask them what format etc, they prefer.
I think I recall that images for newspaper need to be lightened or ‘Knocked back’ somewhat, 10-20%, due to the ink coming off the print roller spreading. If you don’t do it yourself, you’ll have to tell the printer to do it for you.

If its for editorial, not advertising, you’re very safe giving them an RGB JPG saved at, or above 8, or uncompressed TIFF image at 200 dpi with the long side at 10 inches. It’s more than enough resolution, and if the color has to be tweaked for their press, or converted to CMYK, you’re better off letting them do it. They do it all day, and probably dont need you to mess with it.
