"could not initialise photoshop because the file could not be found" is the error message i get when i start photoshop cs2, when its loading everything just befor it finishes it says "initialising tools" then just "initialising" and then a pop up box appears with that message on it.

windows xp sp2,
512mb ddr,
40gig hdd,
pioneer dvd burner,
dvd reader,
geforce fx 5700le 256meg,

it also did it with photoshop cs, i have it installed on my laptop as well, and when i copy the whole c:/program files/adobe/photoshop folder over to my desktop it still doesnt work, plus the pref files arnt in the application data folder like in 8.0, and the shortcut alt + ctrl + shift doesnt work.

Try copying the install data from the CD onto the hard drive and re-install from there.

Note that moving application folders around on Windows is a really bad thing to do – you have to uninstall and reinstall to the new location to make sure all the registry entries have been updated.

And make sure you don’t install Photoshop CS2 over the Photoshop CS folder.

Shoot. Any more description you could add to the problem might be useful. I’m not sure what file it’s talking about – usually the warnings about missing files are specific.
