Startup stuck in endless online update

While loading PE2 using Mac OS 10.2 I get stuck in trying to download AWEXFiles.txt. First the clock thing, then the dreaded beachball of death. I’d turn off online updates in the edit menu but I can’t get to the program since it gets stuck in startup. Already reinstalled once. Ideas?

Try this. Disconnect from the internet if you can, for a moment, then go to system prefs>network>ppp options and uncheck "connect automatically when starting tcp/ip applications". Then launch elements and immediately hold down command, shift and option to delete prefs.
