Is there someone out there who can explain what an EXIF file is? In plain English please. I’m not a dummy but I am curious what the dickens they are.

Thanks in advance – JoAnn

They’re not really EXIF files, JoAnn. There is EXIF information put in an image file by a digital camera. The EXIF information includes such things as f-stop, lens settings, whether or not the flash was used, etc . There is actually a standard format for that information, although some camera manufacturers include more information than is covered by the standard.

EXIF info is sometimes misleading. For example, for "colorspace" there are only two choices, sRGB and untagged. The other EXIF info can be useful in your workflow. Elements2 reads the EXIF info, you can see it under File > File Info, and select EXIF in the dropdown box. I believe Elements only reads the EXIF standard information and ignores anything extra the camera mfg may throw in. Hope this helps, at least you can’t complain that it’s too technical ! <G>
