I have PhotoShop CS2 and a Nikon D300 that will not work in converting the raw images. What are my alternatives, I understand from the Adobe web site that there is no update for this version and camera. I lightroom a economical solution? or any other alternatives?

An updated version of the freeware "Raw Therapee" has recently been released and does support D300 raw images. It is quite effective. If you wish to give it a try, download the documentation PDF as well, as it’s not included with the program file.

You need to download the Adobe DNG converter
( http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4520) and convert your NEF’s to DNG’s and then the latest version of ACR for CS2 and then you can use CS2.

Lightroom has some pretty good photo editing features; not as powerful as Photoshop but you could download the trial version and see if it meets your needs.

Convert your photos with the latest version of Adobe’s free DNG converter and then open it in your version of camera raw. It works and is free but the raw converter in the latest version of Photo shop is better than the one you have. Be aware that Adobe has a 3 version back limit for up grading and if you wait too long you will miss the chance to upgrade at a reduced price.
