How do I convert an RGB image to Sepia tone in Photoshop 5.0? The manual is hardly useful for this question.

Thanks,

Vic

In CS just use Image – Mode – Duotone, then sleect BMY seipa 1 (to BMY Sepia 4).

In CS2 drag the file over "Make Sipia Tone.exe" in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Samples\Droplets\Photoshop Droplets

If you got into HELP and search for Sepia you will find another way, "Mixing color channels".

Neither of which, IIRC, will work in PS 5 which is what the OP requested.

Didn’t PS5 have Duotone ability? I seem to remember that it did. Then the first idea should work.

I got an action with PS7 or CS that converted to Sepia. I can’t find it now, but I think it just desaturated and changed the hue to 30. Or something like that.

In PS 5…it’s been a while…you might be able to desaturate the image and then play with color balance by moving the sliders towards, Red, Magenta and Yellow.

Peadge 🙂

use the hue saturation palette/ move middle slider to left to desaturate, then click colorize and move top slider to get the tone you like.

To get sepia go to Image>Adjustments>Desaturate, then Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation, check Colorize, and set the Hue in the
neighborhood of 40, and the Saturation fairly low.

Duotone can still get one closer to a real sepia-toned image. The toning has different color characteristics across the range of silver densities.

For a great discussion and implementation of Duotone (&tritone and quadtone) see "the Luminous Landscape"
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/duotone.shtml… its everything you might need and a lot of fun as well. Applicable to all versions of PS I think.

Sure; I believe duotones go back to v3 or earlier. Watch out for the ‘canned’ duotone curves that come with Photoshop, though; IME they put way too much coloured ink in the shadows. YMMV.

Good point and agreed. I also use a lot more Tritones to fine tune the color in the upper mids. Tritones and their curves have a lot more depth.
