When I import an image from my scanner, then go to Save for Web, and simply press OK, it gives an image that is always larger than 8.5×11 inches. I constantly have to manually go to Image Size under the Save for Web box to adjust it. Can I make a default output size document so it gives me same size each time? Also, what is an 8.5×11 inch document in pixel dimensions?

Thx

Depends.
8.5 x 11 @ 72ppi = 612 x 792
8.5 x 11 @ 300ppi = 2550 x 3300

You can change image size in pixels in the SFW dialogue before saving. But better to set pixel dimensions you want in main Photoshop first, as functions like sharpening are of course best done as a final step on the final image size.

And working for the web/onscreen, forget thinking inches/ppi. Only pixel dimensions are relevant.
