Let’s say I have a background image of 800×600 pixels.

On top of that I have a layer that was copy/pasted from an image which is 1000×1000 pixels.

Suppose I come back to this file a long time later and have forgotten the exact size of the layer.

Is there an easy way to save the whole layer to a file – including the parts that might stick outside the 800×600 canvas?

If I use File->Scripts->Export Layers to Files, all layers will be saved, but only the parts that fit within the background boundaries, which means that even smaller layers are cropped if they have been moved partly off the canvas.

The best I have come up with so far is:
– Select all pixels in the layer by Ctrl + clicking the layer. – Select Transform Selection. I can now see the layer size (well, the boundaries of the pixels) in the Info window.
– Create a new image using these dimensions.
– Copy/Paste

Would have been nice if the Info
window could display the layer dimensions just by selecting it in the Layers window – but not having to select any pixels or the Transform Selection function.

Is there a better way to
1) view the actual layer dimensions?
2) save the whole layer, regardless of the size of the background canvas?
