DPI to scan images for later printing (same size as original)

I have been doing some reading and if I am going to reprint a scanned image at the same size then I only need to scan at 300DPI is that true?

I am talking about 4×6 and 5×7 pics…

Yes, you only need 300 dpi (if that much).
